1970 Porsche 914 V8

We like to deal in the extraordinary here at Maple House Classics, and this car is exactly that!

The Porsche 914 is a mid engined sports car manufactured in Stuttgart between 1969 and 1976 - Designed to be the more accessible Porsche to replace the outgoing 912, it was fitted with an aircooled VW engine and while beauiful, is often considered under powered and lacking drama.

This particular car fixes the typical 914 ‘underpowered’ problem with some reliable and old fashioned displacement! Built by ‘Renegade Customs’ in Las Vegas, this 914 was given a brand new built Small Block Chevrolet engine, with an estimated 400hp! in a car that weighed less than 1000kg from the factory it created a formidable machine with the power and sound to back up the stunning design. Owned for a number of years by a professional motorcycle restorer, this very special car has been lovingly and professionally cared for all it’s life. Now an extremely rare opportunity to buy one of the most exciting 914’s on the market!

Exterior

The ‘Blood Orange’ paintwork immediately grabs your attention, being both period correct and original, as well as striking! Wider 914/6 arches were fitted to allow wider fitment and stance, along with beautiful polished ‘Fuchs’ wheels. A flat nose front end is installed along with the later and more refined bumpers. The car presents exceptionally well, with no signs of corrosion (The beauty of a California car!) or damage to note. The targa top is present and correct, and currently wrapped in a carbon effect vinyl, but we can organise for this to be painted / wrapped in your desired colour.

Interior

The black leather interior presents exceptionally well, and is supportive and period correct. The usual ‘California cracks’ on the dashboard are nowhere to be seen, and overall the cabin is both a functional and beautiful place to pilot this brilliant car from. All interior dials and electrics work as expected, with the only damage being one tear behind the passenger seat, which cleverly houses the electric master switch for the car.

Mechanical

Underneath the skin this car really shines - The 350CU 5.7L V8 Engine is mated to the original 901 5 speed gearbox, and with the turn of the key fires straight into life with a roar through the custom headers and powerflow exhaust! The engine was brand new when installed in the car, and features hotter cams and electronic ignition for an estimated 400hp. Suspension has been upgraded to 914/6 suspension, along with the brakes to provide more stopping power. Many custom features were required to shoehorn the 350 into the 914, and there is a custom alloy header tank, and heavy duty water pump to keep everything cool.

The car is exceptional to drive, and provides the perfect balance between power, beauty and reliability.

History

58,500 Miles showing on the clock, with less than 10,000 miles estimated on the engine

While we try and take the time to describe the car as thoroughly as possible, as always with a classic car there are quirks that cannot reasonably uncovered by us here - Although, it’s these quirks that make us fall in love with classic cars! Please do consider this when purchasing a classic vehicle.
