1973 Triumph GT6
In 1963, designer Giovanni Michelotti was tasked with designing a GT version f the popular Spitfire - Once the design was complete it was subsequently shelved due to the additional weight of the GT design making performance poor. In 1964, Triumphs racing programme realised a fastback design could be more successful for racing and adopted Michelotti’s design by grafting fibreglass fastbacks onto the the spitfires destined for competition - These vehicles were extremely successful, including a 1965 class win at Le Mans.
This competition success prompted Triumph to reconsider the GT, and overcame the additional weight by increasing power with the wonderful 2.0L Inline 6 engine - The Triumph GT6 was born!
Exterior
Easily the best colour for the GT6 - The Emerald green paint presents extremely well, with the vehicle having undergone a full respray in 1995 to a high standard. Clearly the car has been well cared for since as there are only a limited number of blemishes commensurate with age and mileage, most notably a blemish on the bonnet and roof.
Underneath, the car is as clean as it is up top, with no signs of corrosion whatsoever.
Interior
The black pinstripe interior is in exceptional condition throughout, and is an extremely comfortable place to be. All trim is present and correct, and in great condition. All dials present as they should. This inside of this Triumph really matches the lovely condition of the exterior.
Mechanical
Mechanically, the GT6 fires straight into life and quickly settles into idle. The owner stressed that unlike many others, the car retains maximum originality under the hood, even running the original carburetor and airbox setup. The clutch, brakes and gearbox engage exactly as they should, and the 2.0L straight 6 engine makes all the right noises! An absolute joy to drive. Having just been serviced, this GT6 is ready to be jumped in and enjoyed!
