1981 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000

First unveiled in 1966, the 105 / 115 Series Spider ran for nearly 3 decades across 4 generations. Based on the popular Giulia, it shared a number of mechanicals including the ‘Nord’ series engines, unibody construction and independent front and solid axle rear suspension. With the brilliant drivetrain and timeless Pininfarina design, the spider outlived other 105 / 115 Giulia variants right into the 90’s.

This particular series 2 spider represents one of the last of the ‘Kamm tail’ variants, and the largest engine available in the 105 / 115 - the 2000. Previously restored in the Netherlands, it was then imported to the UK by the current owner who subsequently drove it to his holiday home in Croatia. Having just personally drove this vehicle back to the UK from Southern Croatia, I can confidently say this is a ‘turn key’ classic, ready to be enjoyed and road tripped by it’s new owner.

Exterior

The Rosso Alfa paintwork presents extremely well, having been refreshed in the Netherlands when purchased. This along with a relatively new and unmarked hood, compliment the new brightwork recently installed making this an extremely clean and presentable series 2 Spider. Headlights are clear and glass is all without marks.

Interior

The Nero interior again presents well. all trim is correct and present, and heating and updated audio system (Hidden in glovebox, adding bluetooth functionality) all work as expected. All leather is in good condition on both the seats and doorcards. The large wood rimmed steering wheel is without damage / cracks and all instrumentation works, with the exception of the one lower instrument on the centre console which is not connected.

Mechanical

Mechanically, the car is exceptional - Over a 2000 mile plus journey through mountains and motorways the car never once hesitated. Every day it would fire into life on the first try and was always ready to be driven. The engine itself is wonderful - A revvy and enjoyable motor with a lot more low down torque than expected, with a lovely noise on overrun it’s both comfortable on long distance journeys as well as spirited drives.
