1984 Ford Capri 2.8

Designed by Philip Clark - Who also was involved in the design of the Ford Mustang - The Capri was set to be the European equivalent of the famous performance car. One of the most popular sports cars in the UK at the time, specs were topped with the famous 2.8L Cologne V6, delivering muscle car performance out of the box. The MkIII Capri, launched in 1978, was a heavy facelift of the earlier MkII and first shown at the Geneva Motor Show, and offered improved aero efficiency and styling which influenced Fords design in the following years.

This particular car is the desirable 2.8 Injection - But turned up to 11. Campaigned successfully for a number of years in hillclimbs the vehicle benefits from many improvements which have transformed the way that the car drives and handles - Most notably, a rare ultimax conversion which increases the engine displacement to 3660cc (3.7L) thanks to increased bore and stroke of the famous Cologne. A rare example of an original Capri, that has been built first and foremost to drive and enjoy - This is the ultimate drivers Capri, now looking for a new home.

Exterior
The ‘Glacier blue’ over ‘Caspian blue’ exterior colour presents well overall, with the original 2.8 Injection decals in place and in good condition. There are very few signs of wear and tear to the body, with no damage to note, other than to the extremities of the bonnet which have been touched in with paint (Most likely due to bonnet being in storage as there were fibreglass panels fitted, which can also be included with the sale if desired). All trim is present and correct, with some discolouration to badging. The lightweight ‘OZ Ultralleggera’ wheels are in good condition also and offer a nice contrast to the body colour, while also offering dynamic benefits.

Interior
The inside of the vehicle presents exceptionally well for the age with no damage to note - The rare Grey Recaro seats are comfortable and supportive, and all accessories work as expected. Due to the shorter gearing of the car, the speedo is out but there are stickers on the Speedo for the correct reading. This can be rectified if you desire as the buyer, but is a nice nod to the competition history of the vehicle.

Mechanical
This is where the Capri really shines. The car fires into life without any hesitation and settles into a balanced idle quickly - Everything feels very tight and composed, from the steering to suspension, and the throttle response is exceptional. The heavier steering at low speeds lightens up as soon as you get moving, and offers sharp control usually not present in a vehicle of this vintage and size. To drive this is a seriously impressive vehicle that has been well thought out and executed, and I am confident in saying that this has to be one of the best handing and most enjoyable Capri’s in the UK.
